Online Training Trending Among Design and Construction Firms
The rate of growth of company-wide online training is expected to increase by 13 percent per year through 2017, according to the latest research from Roland Berger, a global strategy consulting firm. Most companies chalk that up to the increased flexibility, cost savings and better time management that online training allows them.
Training Formats and Choices
RedVector, a leading provider of online continuing education and compliance solutions for the architecture, engineering and construction industries, constantly seeks new ways to ensure learners get the most from those eLearning experiences.
That includes providing a wide selection of ways to learn, including text, audio (MP3) and video formats.
People have become increasingly used to consuming information in video format, and it’s estimated that approximately 65 percent of today’s population are visual learners, according to The Institute for the Advancement of Research in Education.
“Because of its high demand and its potential for great impact and retention, accredited video training development has been a high priority for us over the last year,” said Michael Schreiner, director of content and accreditations at RedVector. “We’re proud to say we’ve launched more than 60 new interactive video courses for AEC professionals, including cutting-edge content on BIM and more.”
Bite-sized Learning Modules
Pace is another fundamental benefit of eLearning. Unlike a classroom training session, workers can instead start, stop and replay training at their own speed. At RedVector, a goal has been to create bite-sized learning modules that students can complete in a short amount of time, and refer back to them when needed.
Testing, Assessment and Career Advancement
Online programs, like those at RedVector, typically feature testing, reporting and tracking for their courses.
Through this smart record-keeping, organizations can see which employees have completed the latest safety or sexual harassment training, for instance, putting the company in a better position should lawsuits or licensing problems arise.
They’ll also be able to recognize those who have completed requirements to add credentials (ex. LEED AP BD+C), the kind that help win bids.
Results
With a flexible eLearning program, training becomes a continuous process, rather than an event for AEC firms, encouraging employees to continue honing their abilities.
