Bluebeam optimizes 3D content workflow

Identifying potential clashes and clarifying issues in the field just got a whole lot easier. Bluebeam’s enhanced 3D features make it easy for all project team members to expose hard-to-reach places for easy 3D model viewing, markup and sharing.

For many project teams, virtual design and construction (VDC) and BIM are opening up a whole new world of design evolution. Products and materials are being specified in models, and clashes are being detected before the ground is even broken on a building. The ability to design and share instructions in 3D is making teams more efficient than ever before. But what happens when project partners don’t have access to or technical knowledge of BIM solutions? How can they benefit from the wealth of knowledge contained in a 3D model?

For many project teams, the answer is to leverage 3D PDFs, a universal file format. Bluebeam® Revu®, Bluebeam Software’s PDF-based markup and collaboration solution for the design and construction industry, has incorporated 3D functionality to help project teams bridge the gap between those who typically have access to BIM models, and those who don’t, but who can still benefit greatly from viewing 3D data. With Revu CAD and Revu eXtreme™, users can create 3D PDFs from a variety of solutions, – including Revit®, Navisworks® Manage, and Navisworks Simulate or any IFC file – manipulate 3D PDF models and add industry-standard markups to 3D views.

Enhanced 3D PDF features included in the recent release of Revu 11 are making it easier to clarify questions and resolve issues by creating the next generation of RFIs. For example, in addition to simply adding markups to 3D views, users can copy and paste specific 3D objects from one PDF to another to more clearly document questions about a particular building element. Revu 11 also includes a Section Box tool to expose interior details of a model and a Transform tool to manipulate parts within a 3D model. Together, this functionality enables users to create exploded views of typically hard-to-reach places and then smoothly animate the reassembly. These new 3D views can then be saved and shared to communicate how elements fit together for immediate field-issue resolution. And, these 3D document-based conversations can even take place between remote project team members in real time through Bluebeam’s integrated collaboration solution, Bluebeam Studio™.

Revu’s practical 3D enhancement tools are making invaluable 3D content more accessible than ever before. Slice 3D models, paste 3D views onto your RFIs, isolate 3D model regions and manipulate objects within 3D assemblies – all to get answers more quickly and avoid costly rework. Add a new dimension to your project communication with 3D PDF creation, viewing, markup and collaboration. No glasses required.
