How do you make the most of virtual industry events?
First and foremost, I try my best to minimize distractions. I clear my schedule. I also do some research on both the speakers and guests beforehand I can prepare myself with questions if I get a chance to talk to them. This also allows me to introduce myself to them before the event via email or LinkedIn. Finally, if a specific presentation stood out to me, I reach out to the organizers and try to get a link to the content.
What is the best advice you ever got?
“Be your own best mentor.”
What was your #1 career choice in kindergarten?
The readers are going to laugh, but way before building a career as an investor and COO of a tech company in the construction industry, I dreamed of being a garbage collector. I would wait anxiously for them to show up each week and then run down the block watching them dump each can. Sadly, this was before the exciting robotic arms—nothing glamorous about it! I think what resonated with me was that their work had clear parameters and they provided an essential service to the community.
Which is your favorite ice cream flavor? Any toppings with that?
My favorite flavor is chocolate and peanut butter cup—especially when it’s over 108°F in Arizona in the summer.
What does the future look like for women in construction?
As the country gets out of the devastating effects of COVID-19, there will be tremendous opportunities in the construction industry. We foresee a significant increase in projects and initiatives geared toward rebuilding infrastructure. Women who invest in the environmental, health and safety track can rest assured that there will be increased opportunities as new environmental regulations will provide more accountability in the industry. YellowBird’s mission is to find flexible opportunities for these professionals across the country.
