Moving Images: 2023 CE Photo Contest

The winning entries in the 2023 CE Photo Contest capture construction in all its lifting, hauling, sparking, hammering glory.

This isn’t quite the 2023 CE Photo Contest as we’d originally intended to present it.

While we’re showcasing some of the most striking images we received in response to our request for great shots of construction in the areas of workforce, diversity and equipment/technology—these aren’t all of the most striking images we received. It was a question of safety. There is nothing that CE’s parent organization, Associated Builders and Contractors, takes more seriously; every image we publish must first be approved by ABC’s in-house safety team, to make sure it adheres to the most stringent standards for jobsite healthy and safety.

Unfortunately, a selection of entries to the Photo Contest that made the cut on aesthetic grounds—they looked amazing—simply didn’t pass the safety test. To those companies that submitted those pictures, we apologize sincerely and promise to be clearer and more proactive about communicating the safety standards against which every Photo Contest entry will be judged.

That’s the bad news. The good news is, we still have a great assortment of photos that capture the strength, beauty and sheer physical impact of construction, in all its lifting, hauling, sparking, hammering glory. Congratulations to those companies that are featured on the following pages, representing the winners of the 2023 CE Photo Contest.
