ABC Urges Senate to Pass a Clean CR to End Shutdown

by | Oct 6, 2025

As the government remains shut down, ABC calls on the Senate to pass a continuing resolution.

WASHINGTON, Oct. 3—Associated Builders and Contractors released the following statement from Kristen Swearingen, ABC vice president of government affairs, calling on the U.S. Senate to take immediate action to end the government shutdown by passing the clean continuing resolution—the Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act, 2026:

“Government shutdowns are a counterproductive approach to addressing the challenges facing our nation. ABC calls on the Senate to pass a clean continuing resolution so that the government can reopen, as much must be done to address the needs of our country and enact policies that support economic growth.

“When the government is shut down, it inflicts widespread harm, including disrupting small businesses, withholding key economic data vital for decisionmakers in construction, potentially halting federal judicial proceedings and creating uncertainty for ABC contractors throughout the country. This includes delays in critical federal infrastructure projects and, ultimately, costs hardworking taxpayers money.

“ABC urges the Senate to act swiftly to pass the clean continuing resolution to extend funding, ensuring the government reopens and critical work can resume to support our economy, small businesses and national security.”
