Founded in 1946, family-owned Adolfson & Peterson Construction (AP) has a mission of building trust, communities and people, while focusing on projects that enhance communities where they live and work.

AP has built longstanding relationships with clients across a variety of market segments. Their 730 passionate employees, with an average tenure of 10 years, work from offices in Arizona, Colorado, Minnesota, Texas and Wyoming.

AP’s commitment to service all began with George and Maja Adolfson, who cared deeply about those in need. George and Maja’s rented house in Ogden, Utah, was near the railroad tracks. Maja would feed the homeless men riding the rails, who learned that her home was a safe place for a meal.

The George and Maja Adolfson Fund was established to continue their heritage of being good stewards and to set an example of generosity for future generations. Continuing a longstanding tradition of providing meals for employees, the company still offers employees fully stocked kitchens where they can eat and gather as their founders did.

The AP culture functions on the premise that successful employees make successful clients and projects. Employees make a lasting impact by supporting local charitable and community organizations that they are passionate about. Regional leadership team members make the final decision on which to financially support, but they also offer VTO (volunteer time off) so that every employee is able to give their time to a non-profit of their choosing. To that end, they’ve partnered with several nonprofit organizations whose missions and values align with their own, including:

  • A Precious Child: Provides children in need with opportunities and resources to empower them to achieve their full potential. AP organizes clothing drives, sends volunteers to help sort and unpack donations, and participates in the group’s annual holiday gift drive.
  • Food for Thought Denver: Strives to eliminate the hunger problem faced by many children throughout the Denver area by providing food to each student to take home for the weekend.
  • Back 2 School Bounty: Provides supplies and resource assistance for schools. As the presenting sponsor of this program, AP solicits donations, orders supplies, and packs and delivers boxes of school supplies to teachers throughout the state.
  • McBackPack: Each week the McBackPack program volunteers pack food and deliver it to schools throughout the Poudre School District. At the schools, the food is placed in backpacks and distributed to underprivileged children to take home. AP sends weekly volunteers and helps package weekend meals for an average of 400 kids.

In response to COVID-19, AP recently contributed $10,000 to the Front Range Community College Foundation’s High Needs Fund. This emergency fund will help students who are experiencing unexpected financial hardships during this pandemic that require immediate attention, such as medical, utilities, internet and housing expenditures. The fund will also support campus food pantries, ensuring that no student goes hungry.

“Giving back to the communities in which we build and live is a huge part of the AP mission, and my own personal mission,” says AP Safety Manager Jeremy Hakes.
