Three new reports from the HVACR Workforce Development Foundation estimate 115,000 heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVACR) technicians will be needed by 2022 to fill jobs due to retirements and anticipated growth in the industry, yet only 21,000 students graduated from post-secondary HVACR programs in 2015.

Employers are having difficulty filling refrigeration and HVAC technician positions, reportedly taking a respective 44 days and 36 days longer than the national average of 29 days for similar positions. Additionally, more than 50 percent of instructors indicate they will retire within the next decade.
