This summer, Miami-based Plaza Construction teed up $150,000 for the Voices for Children Foundation at its ninth annual golf invitational at La Gorce Country Club.

The foundation enables Miami-Dade County’s Guardian ad Litem Program to recruit, train and support volunteers to serve as the “voice” for abused, abandoned and neglected children and advocate for their best interests in dependency court
proceedings. Financial support also helps fulfill the children’s medical, educational and social needs.

More than 110 Plaza Construction staff members, clients, subcontractors and industry leaders played in the tournament, with another 35 guests showing their support during the outing. Platinum corporate sponsors included Advanced Millwork, Inc., Orlando, Fla.; Areda Construction, Inc., Miami Lakes, Fla; Capform, Inc., Tampa, Fla.; and Power Design, Inc., St. Petersburg, Fla.

“This year’s tournament contribution reflects a record-breaking amount,” says Wendy Squire, Plaza’s director of business management. “Because the Batchelor Foundation matches dollar for dollar every new donation to Voices for Children, our efforts resulted in a total contribution of $300,000.”

Plaza is committed to supporting both local and national organizations under the leadership of Southeast Region President Brad Meltzer and a committee of employees that drives the annual golf tournament’s philanthropic outcome. Prior fundraising recipients have included the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Plaza also has sponsored corporate events for the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center by participating in the Dolphin Cycling Challenge.

“We lend a helping hand to those less fortunate, and we encourage our employees to do so as well,” Squire says. “Just as our work spans the nation, so do our charitable involvements.”
