Forty-one states and the District of Columbia received a Reed Construction Data Expansion Index greater than 1 in December—indicating overall construction volume will expand in the next 12 months to 18 months. The U.S. average was 1.48. Several metropolitan areas received an Expansion Index greater than 10, including Duluth, Minn.; Durham, N.C.; El Centuro, Calif.; Evansville, Ind.; and Flagstaff, Ariz. The Expansion Index is a monthly measure of expectations for the construction marketplace based on the value of projects in the pipeline.
